What to do with my gun?

I am planning to go North to Canada this summer. I would enter in British Columbia and exit in Alberta. The rest of the trip, will be in the USA. I plan on continuing on to the East coast, then return the southern route.

What I want to know is what to do with my firearm? I know it is not legal to enter into Canada with a handgun. I plan on staying in Canada about a week to maybe two weeks. The total trip will be about three months.

Do I mail it myself, a gun store, or? What have others done in the past?

  • We plan to store our weapons at a gun store in Maine on our way to Nova Scotia and picking them up on the way back.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
  • Leave it locked up at home or at a gun shop near the border.

It's better to be legal than misinformed, go here and get the right information. You can take fire arms into canada, fill out the forms have them ready to hand the boarder guard. pay the fee (25.00) and go. the permit is good for 30 days. we do this each time we go to Alaska.
Read what is legal to carry and comply.

Excellent advice...get the correct information from a legal, government source.

In general people tend to interpret laws differently. We being human will read what we want to hear.

  • Since you are entering British Columbia and exiting Alberta check to see if a local gun dealer near the border in Washington can take the gun and forward it to a gun dealer in northern Montana. Maybe Seattle to Great Falls. I would think they could easily do that, for a fee of course.

Others will chime in here I'm sure - If you was coming back the same you went in you could just store it somewhere on the USA side and pick it back up when you come out. Don't try to hide it - you will lose your gun and may get a big fine...

  • i have heard stories where you can leave it at a gun dealer near the border for a small fee and retrieve it when you cross back into the states. just a thought
