My suggestion would be to take the ferry from Haines to Skagway, spend the rest of the day there, then drive to the RV park in Carcross to spend the night. Or you can reverse that trip when driving up the Alaska Highway.
Nothing special about the Carcross RV park--gravel/dirt pull-thru sites separated by horizontal telephone poles and no trees--but it has hookups with 30A power, showers, and a store/cafe/gas station. In other words, a somewhat better than average Alaska/Yukon/northern BC RV park!
BTW, I agree that the Haines Cutoff is much more spectacular (and much longer) than the South Klondike Highway.
