I boondocked next to the Taiya Inlet at Dyea in my camper rig back in July 1998 what appeared to be outside the park boundary which was a nice spot off the roadway just enough to fit one vehicle with enough space around you....but I see now on google street view that they placed a bunch of boulders along that spot surrounded by undergrowth (just a tad north of the main turnout but south of the campground and park entrance).
Portions of that road is narrow and not fit for a motorcoach in my opinion (at least in 1998), however it is quite a unique road and drive to Dyea and the start of the famous Chilkoot Trail, definitely worth a visit.
Mile 4 Dyea Rd.

Mile 5 Dyea Rd.

Chilkoot trail entrance and .4 mile Chilkoot Trail

In June 1994 upon my first visit to Skagway before owning an RV, I made reservations for a room in February of that year (the lodging establishment was farthest away and one mile from the main town) and people that arrived in town were still inquiring for any room available as evidently they were all booked up.
Needless to say as others posted, best to get reservations of any spot available in Skagway just to be on the safe side.
