If going north on the Cassiar, fill up with fuel at the junction of Hwy 16. Then Bell II (250 km from Hwy 16 junction) and Dease Lake (235 km from Bell II). Both Bell II and Dease Lake facilities are open year-round.
We've driven south on the Alaska Highway in mid-September without issue. We've also driven the Alaska Highway with an RV in winter so aren't as concerned about snow. The highway crews do a good job keeping the highway clear. If there is a snowfall, you may prefer to pull over until the storm passes and the crew get the job done.
Most of the lodges outside of the communities along the Alaska Hwy and Cassiar Highway close after Labour Day, but it varies. For instance, Contact Creek on the Alaska Highway is open year-round.
Most of the tourist attractions close in early September.
