We prefer the Cassiar southbound in September because there is less industrial traffic. Mid-September on the Alaska Highway between Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek is very hectic with the gas/oil companies trying to wrap things up for winter. Very busy with trucks going too fast in both directions and most camping facilities are packed with workers. After 2007 we decided to not drive the Alaska Highway in late September again, just too crazy. We prefer the more leisurely drive of the Cassiar Hwy.
