Unfortunately, as with many programs, Apple products do not work with MS products unless the MS OS is installed on the Apple. As far as I know there is no good mapping or GPS that works with Apple. Most Apple and many new mini computer things like iPad or whatever - even MS stuff - does not have the hard drive capacity for programs such as S&T (almost 2GB - consider every street in North America and the ability to do many things with those maps) - they rely on the Internet to function - some can have added capacity using USB flash drives or whatever. I am no expert or authority on any of this.
We have a 14" screen for our S&T in our motorhome but we use a Garmin when in the car. We are thinking of buying one of the new Garmins with the 7" screen but we would still be planning our trips and routes using S&T. Since we travel to many areas where Internet may not be perfect the devices that rely on being online are useless to us.
The reasons we find S&T to be the best all around and over all program for planning and routing are way to numerous to list. My tutorial just scratches the surface of what can be done with S&T. After using it for 7 years (with new versions each year) we are still learning new tricks we can do with it. You can plan your route using S&T and then send the route to some Garmins but I have not done it so cannot say which Garmin or how to do it.
Brains vary but mine seems to enjoy playing with gadgets like S&T and looking at maps and creating routes to get to places we want to go. We often find places we did not know existed by perusing our S&T maps. Everyone has a different brain and different ways of looking at these things.
