We live on an acreage, have done so for 15 years now. We have our well water tested each spring during runoff. We trust OUR water and we always carry 3 one gallon glass jugs of OUR water when ever we leave home in the RV. We never drink the water in our holding tank even if it came from OUR well.
On longer trips (as snowbirds) we fill the 3 jugs at commercial water dispensers. We always avoid drinking campground water, just like the OP is suggesting. But, that is how we do it, "to each his own".
