- egh33ExplorerCrossed Wyo. back in the 50's and stopped for gas. The wind was really blowing. I asked the station attendant if the wind blew like that all the time. His answer was no, usually blows a lot harder.

Where is the anvil? - 2milesupExplorer III heard once that Wyoming is where the snow doesn't melt, it wears out...
- loggenrockExplorerGene&Ginny - I did not! I was working for AMC, living at Lakes of the Clouds. We used to hike our radio batteries up to the Obs for charging (pre-solar!). We had a bit of leeway and chose NOT to make the trip in those conditions!!! The nights I have spent in the Obs (summit) have never been blowing at 100+. You apparently know the mountain! ST
- PotKornExplorerThe last time we were traveling near Rawlins, WY, it was so windy that we watched a chicken lay the same egg three times.

Did you ever qualify for the Century Club?
I worked on Mt Washington for a while. The "deck", which is part of the roof of the park building, has those 2-foot square concrete patio pavers on it. Some of them have been known to blow away!!! Visit http://www.mountwashington.org/ for more info! Including webcams! ST - pauljExplorer IIThe old house on Shipping News was tied down (don't recall whether it was cables or chains):

A nice animation of national weather service wind data is found at:

- camperforlifeExplorerI knew it was windy where we live & the wind turbines are popping up around here like dandelions but we certainly don't have to chain building down!!!
- SCVJeffExplorerI'd pay real money to see that Mt. Washington chain blowing at 90 degrees..
