Yarmouth, NS - Maine, ferry bids Optimistic

The government of Nova Scotia announced that it has received 3 business plans/bids for service from Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

There are other articles to be found at google.

Remember the government in office in Nova Scotia is the same government that dropped the previous ferry subsidy.

& so far, all sources are very optimistic about progress on this issue.

  • I am thinking that with the tourist dollars that New Brunswick gets, they might not be too happy.

Sounds good to me though. I would use that next time.

  • The old "CAT" ended up in Taiwan.

It was not the boat for the job here, it could not carry large trucks.

The high speed ferry (The Cat) contract came to an end and wasn't renewed because of their prices which were too high and unacceptable.
  • I can remember when there were ferries going to Yarmouth from Portsmouth, NH & Bar Harbour, ME.

I have no idea if either one was subsidized. & that might have been because the roads weren't speedier than 50 mph limits.

Once upon a time I knew the Purser on one of the boats. When some one from the south asked. "How come the ferry takes 2 hours longer to go to Yarmouth from Bar Harbor, than it does to go from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor". He would answer: "One way is up hill." :P

  • Why is this so one sided? Where are the people and government of Maine? There has to be some sort of economic benefits to Maine so why is it just up to NS to foot the bill?
