yosemite from lee vining

We are wondering how far it is from Lee Vining to the visitor center in Yosemite Valley. We would have to leave our 39' fiver out of the park? and explore in the truck. Anybody know where we could leave it overnight if we wanted to spend a night in the park? Now at Bishop Mule Days- Great!
  • I agree with those who say to park either in LeeVining or Glass Creek and enjoy the scenic drive. We have a home in Mammoth Lakes and usually make the drive once or twice a year from there. Leaving from ML is a half hour longer than from the Whoa Nelly Deli.

Don't forget that behind Mono Lake is Adobe Valley and the wild horse population of about 250 horses.

North a little is Bodie St Pk. An old mining town that is being kept in what the state calls a state of arrested decay. It hasn't changed much since our fifty something girls thought it was fun to drop rocks in the cow pies to hear the "galoop sound".

Check out glass creek campground. Its free. Its has large sites. And a camp host. It is about half way between June lake and lee veining. Made the trip to Yosemite many times for the day

Actually, Glass Creek is between Mammoth Lakes and June Lake. The road is a little difficult to see, but it's right across the highway from the Forest Service buildings.

Good place, but be aware that it is usually packed with OHV enthusiasts and their machines...can be dusty. But....it is free!

  • Someone mentioned the smoking brakes on the downgrade -- I just put the truck into second gear and cruise down at 35 to 40 -- when a faster driver comes up behind, I pull over asap (lots of pullouts on that road). Saves wear and tear on the brakes.
  • Yep, occasionally someone comes along here who have no knowledge of using the engine compression to slow a vehicle.....hence, the smoking brakes.
