Drinking and driving may be OK in VA(????) but it is against AZ, and most areas, laws. To make such a recommendation on a public forum (or anywhere) is irresponsible!!

Don't Drink and Drive.

If you want to avoid the Phoenix area you could take I-8 then north a little way on I-10 to 387 on to 287 east into Florence and 79 north to 60 west - coming in the back way. It's good for RVs - no elevation.

I have no problems traveling this route. Very little traffic and good roads.
