I also prefer to make reservations online. The exception to that would be if I were looking for a particular site/section of a campground for a long-term stay. In that case I’d prefer the phone.
I’m partial to websites such as KOA’s. I like the fact that they list the features/amenities of the different sites so I can choose what I want. IMO they could improve it by including a map showing the location/section within the park. I don’t need to know the specific site, but I usually look on Google Maps to look at the park and determine which area I would prefer to be located.
Features which I am interested in include 50a vs 30a, back in vs pull thru, shade (comfort) vs no shade (satellite dish), proximity to highway, showers and pool (noise/convenience). The width of sites is also a big consideration.
If I am just passing through an area and just staying for one night, most of these can be overlooked.
