A few years back we made a similar trip, although we did it in 5 1/2 weeks because we had a wedding out East to get to...in a hurry.
Our boys were 18, 15, 14 and the biggest issue was getting them rise out of bed in the morning. ;)
We left early in the AM on travel days and they just brought their pillows etc into the 'Burb and promptly went back to sleep for 3-4 hours.
They weren't too thrilled with getting up early but we explained that at the end of every travel day was a reservation at a CG with a nice pool. We'd usually roll in at around 2-3PM which gave them time to hit the water and relax, and sometimes be a general nuisance with their combined theatrics. Many a rolling eye and smile was made as others witnessed their nonsense.
To this day, we all talk about that trip. So many memories (the odd nightmare..lol) were made that it was so worth it.
Guys at work gave me a hard time about "that must have cost a fortune!!??"
Fuel/camping/attractions/FOOD (a biggie with 3 inhalers on board) = $5000 for 5 1/2 weeks vacation.
Couldn't fly to Hawaii for a week for that.
The best 5 1/2 weeks we spent together as a family.
