95 South

Some things never change. We got on 95 South this morning at Rocky Mount NC and after a nice first day drive without traffic it was a nightmare as it is every year at this time. I usually take 17 for a nice leisurely ride but decided why not see if 95 is better today "Wrong Wrong" got off after 50 miles and headed towards the coast to spend 3 nights in Charleton. Leaving here on the 30th and am sure I will stick to 17 again. So if you are in New England then hit the coast or head inland to 81.

  • We drove down I95 from NJ on Tuesday and hit traffic a little north of Fredericksburg, VA all the way to the Richmond Bypass. It was smooth going the rest of the trip. We travel this route every year when we return from visiting family in NJ at Christmas. We try not to travel Friday - Monday as traffic is usually really bad these days around the holidays.

We came down I95 on Monday and we were literally stopped many times south of the Virginia border. This combined with very heavy traffic on I81 on Sunday set us back almost 3 hours on our usual travel time to Myrtle Beach from Montreal. Never seen it like this before.
  • I-81 was the busiest I've ever seen.
We did the whole length from the Canadian border to Knoxville. We could see dozens of trucks lined up like a train with idiot car drivers weaving in and out, all at 80+ mph.
This use to be the quiet way south.
  • Ugh - I-75 wasn't any better - we literally CRAWLED to FL this week! And most traffic jams weren't due to crashes, just slowdowns where two highways merged.
