Probably not INSIDE the park, but the Camp Burson campground, just outside the gates, but still operated by the park DOES have larger sites that will accommodate large RVs.

I would call the park and ask about the Burson section of campground. It is newer and more spacious than the remainder of sites. I think I was told it has full hkups.

From what I have read here and on several websites, you have it correct. But the distance from the top of the trail to Damascus is 17 miles. But they say it is a good ride even for a novice.

What is the geography of the trail between Abingdon and Damascus? I'm reading of the the outfitters that take you to the top of the mountains and you have a downhill ride of several miles. If I begin my trek in Abingdon and headed southeast towards Damascus, what is that terrain like? Is that going to be an uphill ride?

The $5 fee is infuriating but, IMHO in place to discourage people from taking Fido along.

We do not have a dog so this doesn't bother us.
What does the $5/ night pay for? Is this for cleaning up after those owners who DON'T clean up after their dog? I cannot think of another thing that these charges could be for.

there is a small park in Damascus, VA. don't know much about it, except it is on the river because it was full when I was there during Trail Days, and I was staying with a friend who lives in the area.

This is for all of Virginia State Parks, but there is a $15 max fee per dog, if that is any consolation.
