A short film for you boondockers

We had a satelitte tracking site in Elephant Butte NM area that was some 40 miles off the road up past Engle NM. Lots of mud especially at three areas where a railroad allowed water to go under it. We had them named waterhole #1, #2, and #3.. We had a bunch of govt contract vehicle for bringing shift folks in and out and going for supplies. Of course we had them all fixed up with 4X4, high lifts and big mud tires and the whole works.

It seems the bigger the tires the deeper they would dig into the mud...

There was a old lady that lived up the road from there would see all of us buried to the antennas and would drive down in her little volkwagon and take us back to the site. She could drive circles around our stuck trucks... Once you spin the wheels you are dead in the water so to speak haha...

Actually makes me wonder how long todays cars would last if driven like that. :B

Um, that wasn't a truck, and I believe they were only rear wheel drive.;)

No power steering neither!!....imagine driving those ruts and not breaking an arm, let alone having the strength & stamina to keep the car aimed in the right direction......

Makes you wonder how long those old vehicles would have lasted if they were only driven on modern highways?

Not if you want to drive a Model T era vehicle!!! Stock modern trucks are going to need some mods.

But it is very impressive where the old skinny tired Tin Lizzie's could go!!!

I didn't research the film clip but it looked some like BurkBurnett TX in some of the town street roads.

The kids back then could walk on the oil pipes from Burk to Wichita and never touch the mud.

Bought back some memories of times gone paste... I was only a kid back in those times but my daddy would go anywhere with his setup.. Model A ford and couple of horses and a wagon is all you needed back in those days for sure...

So you don't need a 6" lift and 35" mud tires to go off road??

Now that was cool! Were those trucks only rear wheel drive? It was sure plowing thru some grim muck.

It probably went throught the mud better than some of todays 4WD vehicles.
And, a roll over and no broken windows? They sure don't build them like that anymore. :)
