We stayed there a couple of weeks ago, during a warm spell. We used both air conditioners in the day. Good sites with great views (lake side of the road). May go back, but in February time frame. This month, our camp site will be at 6300'.

Please post a review to RVPARKREVIEWS. I, and many others, use that site when looking for nice places to stay.

They replied to me after I wrote in reguards to OHV riding right out of the campground. It sounds like you have to ride on the shoulders and hwy a ways to get to the mountains. They said from Portal into the mnts. was real nice. Needless to say it sounds like if you want to explore the Chiricahua Mts. you'd have to trailer you OHV to them. Looks like it's pretty open to the wind too. Not putting it down but there things for us to look at for what we like to do.

You need to experience sitting out at night looking at the sky in a dark sky area. The night sky with no light pollution and the silence can not be described only experienced.
If you find your self in New Mexico 5 miles East of Arizona on I 10 do your self a huge favor and experience this for your self.

Double ditto. If you're a telescopic enthusiast take your scope for the night sky.

My few somewhat recent trips down West I10 along the close border areas Personal Safety is a hugh thing now with all of the foot traffic coming across the border. In past trips we was always doing the pull offs and catching a few hours sleep under a tree somewhere ... Wouldn't think of doing any of that in these times...

Being so close to the border however I would always keep a watchful eye on my surroundings. Common sense rules... Its a darn shame too as things are so beautiful in the West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona southwest desert areas.

Most of my working days since the 1960s were spent from North Texas to Phoenix AZ making the Interstate and back roads trips.
