A very special campground in AZ.......

......is the one we have not yet discovered.

We will head down to AZ in a month or so and stay for 2-3 weeks. We are two old fuddy-duddys and a 60# dog.

Cost is not a concern. We want a CG (Private, state or county) that is small and has a LOT of space between sites.

A quiet place with little or no noise from traffic/trains or planes. Don't need big clubhouse/activities, swimming pool, spa, etc.

Maybe 100-200 miles into AZ and off Hwy 8 or Hwy 10 a mile or so.

We are looking at rvparkreviews.com and the 2014 Good Sam Travel Guide plus other sources but we thought someone out there has already stayed at our hoped-for CG. (Or heard about one)

Thanks in advance,

  • Lots of recommendations for various State Parks!! BUT - they all have 14 day limits! You clearly said longer stays so plan on moving.
  • Just outside Phoenix and N. of Apache Junction is one of our favorites...Lost Dutchman State Park.

  • Kartchner Caverns State Park a few miles south of Benson, is very nice, quiet and spacious.
Buckskin Mountain State Park, on the CO river, a few miles north of Parker, AZ, is very pretty.
  • Catalina State Park is high on our favorite's list. Reserve early because the place is full. Here's a shot from last December:

  • During New Year's we spent a week at Catalina State Park in the Tucson area.....without a doubt, this was the nicest State Park we've been to. Lots of space between sites, great walking/hiking trails, and even though your within minutes to shopping, eating places, you feel very isolated in the Park. 50 amp electrical for those hot days and water but no sewer(dump station only)

One last thing and because of having no sewer, we used the campground showers(free)...their restroom, by far, were the cleanest, the showers were beautiful, large and tiled...I can't say enough about them, the best of any campground, public or private! All this for 25 a night. Have Fun
  • Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood.Beautiful SP with nice views.Water and electric hookups.Alot of history in that area.
