Just got back, and we had a wonderful time.
While a man made the statement that he has been going for the last 5 years and he can see a decline in the park (mainly the concrete pads) we found it to be very nice and centrally located for our trip.
We did notice a few sites that did have broken pads, including ours (site #127) this in no way would deter us from going back.
While several of the sites are IMO kinda close together, we waited 10 months for our site which gave us no immediate next door neighbor to the right.
We drove thru St Andrews and weren't very impressed...but again, that's only our opinion.
We are heading to Topsail in September. This is our first time and we have site 127 as well!
How bad was the pad? Looked like it was a fairly easy site to get in based upon the photo.
Site #127 at Topsail is not broken up too bad, the really bad ones are over in the front section. Some of those I would consider not usable. They were repairing one or two a year a couple years ago but this past year they haven't repaired any.
Be sure to fill your fresh water tank when you get there. The past couple of times we have been there they have had water line breaks and have had the water off for several hours while repairing. Due to the roots of the pine trees causing the concrete pads to break, they also are causing the water lines to break too. The last four times we have been to Topsail, three times there was a water line break. Fill your tank just in case.
We will be on site #132 the last week of Sept.
