Abita Springs Resort

I just respond to a promotional mailing for a free stay at an Ocean Canyon Properties. I have made reservations for a free stay at Abita Springs Resort in Abita Springs, LA. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this company or this resort?
  • Save your time and money! Our experiences with OCP have been really bad. Got suckered into buying a membership buy a high-pressure, lying through his teeth salesman. We were told all the resorts would hold our 45 foot coach and that all resorts a very high end. What a joke! Only 1 resort will hold a 45 footer and most are total dumps! If you want high end resorts stay away. If you just want someplace for a travel trailer or smaller 5th wheel you should be OK. They advertise Styx River as "A Woodall's 5 Diamond Resort and One of the finest parks in America". What a crock! The place is a dump! A drunk campground guide tried to get us into a much too small spot (after OCP main office and Styr River front desk assured us a 45' coach would fit) and ran us into an unmarked, unlit wall causing around $10,000 in damage to our new coach. We are going to take OCP to court under the Florida Fraud statues to get our membership fee and damages reimbursed to us.

We stayed there using our C2C affiliate....$10/night

IF you accept their offer/tour etc. then you will have a 90 minute sales presentation you must attend. It will be a 'hard sale'....at a high buy in price. The harder you say NO the price will start coming down. And then it will be "This is the best price you will get. Only good RIGHT now!"

Then if you still say NO......a little more push/no lower price, then it's over.......except IF you are really interested you can not purchase at the lower offer (that passed when you left) and you will not be able to buy/use any membership via a 'resale' for 1 to 2 yrs due to being locked out by attending/accepting offer and not buying then.

Abita Springs is a nice campground......nothing fancy.....simple. We enjoyed our stay as we wanted to be out a ways and explore the area. Not a destination park.....or one that I would want to repeatedly go to.

    Memberships work.
IF you use them a LOT
    You purchase CHEAP
And the CGs are someplace you WANT to go.

IF so........buy 'RESALE' (that FREE offer could costs $$$$$$)

Thanks for the information. I will put your comments to use.
  • In 40+ tears of camping we've never bought a "membership"; like timeshares they can become money black holes. Tread with caution.

  • Howdy!

We stayed when it was a ROD park. Nice friendly campground but nothing to write home about. As with most of their parks it is a bite out of the way from everything. I would not consider it are any of the Ocean Canyon Properties as a buy in membership.

  • We have stayed there while it was a Western Horizons Park. WHR sold it out from under us. It was an OK park. We stayed there to visit family in NO.
Ocean Canyon Properties and other membership parks gets some negative comments. I would suggest that you look at the cost and how much you will use the membership. Read the fine print of the contract, you may be committed for years before you can resale it.
Before you go, I would Google "Ocean Canyon Properties" and read some of the comments. You can also find resales there.
