For a private cg we like North Pole Resort (100 Acre Woods side) in Wilmington, 10 miles from Lake Placid. The KOA also gets good ratings but we've never stayed there. And there are many State (DEC) cg's but they don't have hookups.
High point attractions include Lake Placid and the Olympic venues, and +1 for the Wild Center in Tupper Lake and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. If I had to chose one it would be the Adirondack Museum.
Sorry, but the Old Forge & Lake George areas don't do anything for us (except the Old Forge hardware store.)
