Advice on Niagra Falls

Any campgrounds near the area that anyone can recommend? We are planning a trip sometime this year, and the closer to the falls the better, but we also prefer campgrounds with a bit of space in between. Electric hookup is probably the only necessity, other than a place to fill up for water and dump on the way out. Will have 2 kids 14 and 11 with us.

Prefer to stay on the US side.
  • Short answer. Go over to Canada. The view of the falls is far superior on the Canadian side. Be sure to go back at night to see the light show on the falls. Can't see that from the US side either.
  • What route to 4 Mile Creek with the Camper? Good Sam routing says no RVs on the main road there??

The O Canada Eh variety show is next door and is well worth the money.

We stayed at the KOA a few years ago and enjoyed it. We crossed Rainbow Bridge with no problems, wait times weren't too bad. It was all new to us so it was an adventure!

The city bus that stops right in front of the KOA is fantastic - brings you right into the center of everything with a very short ride.

We had a great dinner at the Skylon Restaurant, overlooking the falls. At the visitor center on the Canadian side you can get REALLY close to the top of the falls. Maid of the Mist was neat to go on.

I took my son and his friend to see the power dam on the Canadian side. Really cool if you like that sort of thing, take an elevator down something like 25 stories to see the generators and a quick tour of the place.

There is a LOT to do and see in the area (state parks, shows, etc) if you do a little research.

Niagara Falls is extraordinarily touristy and built up. All those beautiful pictures you see are from certain angles to avoid all the city-like area around it. Worth visiting, but the amount of city surprised me.

Good Sam is wrong. The parkway is fine for RV's and there are no signs restricting them. We've traveled that way several times in our Class A, and have seen numerous TT's and 5'vers on the road. Be aware though, there's a major reconstruction of the roadway underway near the city that will likely cause delays.
  • I have stayed at Riverside Park. It is nice plus it is right on the Niagara River PLUS it is right on the Niagara River Trail (a wonderful bike riding trail).

It's about 10 miles from the falls

We rode our bikes into Niagara Falls Canada!

  • Branches of Niagara was a hit with our family. Very close to Niagara. Pretty spot. Bring bug spray.
  • We stayed at Four Mile Creek and it was nice. Didn't really spend much time at the campground, but facilities were fine and is close enough to Niagara to be convenient. Also, recommend the trip to Skylon Tower for dinner and evening light show. Tough to beat the view from up there, and the food was pretty decent too. It's touristy and slightly pricey, but you should do it while you're there, IMO. Very nice experience.
  • With little doubt, the Niagara Falls experience is better any way you look at it, from the Canadian side. We stayed at the KOA Niagara Falls campground in Canada , which was extremely convenient. A Trolly came around frequently to take us to and from the Falls.
