Planning on staying in the Rushmore/Black Hills area for 6 days.there is sure ALOT of RV parks. looking for some REAL world advice on were to stay.RV park reviews has ALOT of reviews of the area, lots to take in.we can go from fancy to not fancy. i like space between sites and wireless.leaving the KIDS at home so that part is not important.Thanks

What time frame? From about the 20th of July to the 10th of August, you will have a hard time finding any sites close by. The Sturgis rally is in that time frame and about 100K other folks will be there, too. We are arriving on July 19th and will stay till Aug 14th.

We stayed at Custer's Gulch RV park in Custer. Some of the upper sites are a little close but the lower ones are very large. Lots of space between and long enough that one could put two RV's front to back. They called them "premium sites". We like the place and will go back.

We have stayed here a couple of times. Really like it. Central to all the doings'. There are 5 different camping areas. We like the "Island" area.Have a good trip.Rafter J Bar

Custer's Gulch for us, too. Liked it, and the little town of Custer, as well.Close to the SP.

I really enjoyed Big Pine Campground when I was at Rushmore last summer.Great campground, very woodsy and secluded, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

Advice on where to stay in the SD Rushmore/Black Hills area

I second the opinion on Big Pine Campground west of Custer. Nice camp sites and the owners go out of their way to make your stay a good one. One of the best private campgrounds we have stayed at.

We stayed at Beaver Lake just west of Custer. Lots of space between site, friendly owners, great facilities. I will go back when we go to Mt. Rushmore again.

For link on Old Post -- we loved Custer and Custer Gultch -- wide open, not too Fancy and the drives to everything are so much fun.

Just got home from Rushmore Shadows. Nice place. We have stayed at the KOA just west of Mt Rushmore and at Big Pine. We have not had a bad stay. If you stay at Big Pine just west of Custer you have to pick up some Apple Fritters at the bakery in Custer. Just the best!

We enjoyed Jafter J Bar RV Park. There is a good bit of space between units and the full hookups are good. There are a lot of commopn areas in the resort. It is close to both town and the areas that you will want to see.

Check out Horse Thief Campground. just outside Hill City. very nice place surrounded by the Hills on Needles HWY.
