Aguirre Spring Campground NM

Is anyone familiar with this BLM CG? thinking about it in January for a few nights. Is it doable with a short 21' fifth wheel? In January? The google map view makes it look like snow, but I suppose it could be white sand.

  • I drove through it today. Road is narrow and twisty. It drops down to one lane going into the actual campground and then has some sharp turns. I wouldn't try it with my 25 foot 5er. I think anything longer than a 12 foot utility trailer would get interesting. Just as an indicator, the campground host has a fiver in a spot 4 miles from the actual campground.
  • Snow is very much hit and miss. If it happens, it'll last for a day. Based on your size description, you should fit in. My Mom and Dad live just over the pass from there!
Gorgeous place, take the loop hike!!
  • Here's a YouTube on it dated January. It's at 6,000' EL so in January, yes, you could have snow.

It looks like an absolutely beautiful place to be. Hope you make it!

Oliver Lee State Park is also close to White Sands Nat'l Monument if that will be one of your destinations.

If planning to do a lot in New Mexico in January it can be cold and windy so plan ahead. We had hoped to spend the whole winter touring New Mexico when we first began full-timing and it didn't take long to find out that it's cold, even at the southern part. We moved over to Arizona and much, much better. :)
