I think you will find some times during the winter it's cool no matter where you go, I remember every few years Florida orange crops get killed off by frost. We stay in Borrego Springs California (altitude about 500 ft. above sea level), last December there was snow in the hills above about 1,000 ft. They occasionally get snow in northern Mexico around that time as well.
The good news is that the days warm up quickly in the desert and you don't get that bone chilling cold at near freezing temps like you do in Ohio or in Canada.
