The good news is that the days warm up quickly in the desert and you don't get that bone chilling cold at near freezing temps like you do in Ohio or in Canada.
As I said to SteveAF it may be that we drive out to Tucson and spend 2 weeks or so to get a feel. I always hear good things about the Mesa area and since it's just a little north of Tucson could check it out as well.
