In tje mid 80s I worked at Cullaton Lake gold mine ( google earth it, Wikipedia it) in the Keewatin district of Canadas NW Territory.
The mine was on the transition between the barrens of the arctic and the boreal forest
Everything went in or out by air. The airstrip and the 5 km road to the mill and camp were a wildlife haven for caribou, arctic hares, Lemming, Moose and myriad other creatures.
Roads gave all those creatures an easy trail to migrate on, a fast trail to outrun predators like wolves and Inuit hunters ( thats the native people they are not eskimos)
Leave it to the people who have science and depend on the land to survive.
