"Green Mountain Monster"??? I was born and raise in Bristol VT, did I miss something here, what Monster? Or do you mean "Champ" the reputed sea monster of Lake Champlain? BTW: Champ is real!
Others have named most of the good sites, but here's a must... Mt. Philo SP, you can drive right up to the top and overlook the whole Champlain Valley. The best spot in VT for a picnic. While you're there, head over to Ft. Ticonderoga NY, (short trip) take the ferry over and back by the new Champlain bridge at Crown Point. I also like Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, better plan to spend the whole day there...
