Any recommendations on where to purchase eyeglasses in Algodones. Do you take your own prescription from US or have one there?
Best Optical....We have used them for years. - ejshawneeExplorerAny recommendations on where to purchase eyeglasses in Algodones. Do you take your own prescription from US or have one there?
- olygeneExplorerTake a day trip into Algodones if you have never been. We went last week and I got 3 bifocal glasses with plastic lens and my wife got bifocal reading glasses for a total of $420. The total time from start to finish was 3 hours. Avoid the Paraiso restaurant in the courtyard--it never was very good for Mexican food but has gotten noticeably worse in the past several years. Many eat there because it's safe, with live music, English speaking waiters, etc...but the food is marginal at best. Since we snowbird in AZ, Yuma is very convenient for us but we only go when we need glasses, liquor, meds or dental work.
You should park in the large parking lot on the U.S. side of the border for $8 (Class C) and walk across. There is only one parking lot (unlike Nogales) so you can't miss it. Just remember where you park. - dieharderExplorerIMO, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
- larry_barnhartExplorerAfter the marine being held so long we will never see Mexico again. No lose for us not going back.
chevman - empty_nestExplorerTake the passports...... what's it going to hurt. If you end up needing them, you'll be glad you have them. If not, they don't take up much space. Seems like a no-brainer.
- ReneeGExplorerOh yes . . . for the panaderia - bakery! My fav!
- joebedfordNomad IIMight be less hassle at the highway checkpoints if you have "your papers". I know I usually get waved right through but one time I was asked for my passport and I didn't have it and it was a hassle.

- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIIt makes for a pleasant unique day trip. Take your passport. You park in a large lot with hundreds of other Americans and walk across a short distance. It is definitely safe. Enjoy a nice lunch and margarita or beer. You won't be alone, for sure. One thing to be aware of - it'll take longer to return than walking over. You'll have to go through customs. You just stand in line and compare purchases with others. If you get acquainted with others from your RV park, there will surely be some that will join you for the day. It's the 'thing to do' while in Yuma.
