On your way to Rockport, check out Mustang Island (free ferry,short ride) and at
Rockport, Goose Island state park is nice. If you are taking your time, follow the coast up to Palacios and stay a Serendipity Bay resort (Palacios is the shrimp capitol of Texas). Then we like to go up to Surfside Beach and on to Galveston and take the free ferry, about 2 miles, to the Bolivar Peninsula. We stay as close to the coast as we can all the way to Beaumont.
