The only bad thing about taking little winter vacations is that airplane ride back. Nothing is more depressing than leaving that southern sun/warmth only to look out the plane window at the frozen northern tundra during the descent. At nighttime the houses look like lite up igloo's. In the airport you have to change out of your shorts and into long pants then swap your sandals for mukluks, and wait, where did I put that big bulky jacket.
I did that during most of my working career always dreaming about the time when I could kiss that stuff goodbye and become a snowbird for real. Heading south for a week or so are just vacations that you take to break up the long cold dark northern winters. It is nice in the sense that your places to visit is no-longer dictated by if you can drive there safely or not.
