Obviously you've never been shopping in Scottsdale (or the greater Phoenix or Tucson areas for that matter) if you think there is great shopping in Yuma. Large metro areas will have better shopping, restaurants, museums, arts centers, concerts, etc., because there is a population to support all of those things.
We've been to Yuma, would never go back. But lots of people enjoy it though they always talk about being with all of their friends - I really think it is the friends that are the draw, not the town.
