Dan,
We've been boondock camping out in the Oregon high desert several miles north of Plush, OR. However, just East of there are a couple of Southeastern OR and Northeastern CA mountain areas that have been recommended to us by friends for their remoteness and beauty -Steens Mountain and the Warner Mountains. Parts of one or both of these two higher-up areas may be in the path and cooler.
We need to eventually explore and camp in those areas ourselves.
