Beach campsite

Beverly Beach Camptown near Flagler Beach, FL is on a seawall directly on the ocean.

Bryn Mawr in St. Augustine is on the ocean and has a few ocean view sites.

I recommend Myrtle Beach also. Our favorite is Ocean Lakes. There are the big three there: Ocean Lakes, Lakewood and Pirateland. In our opinion, Ocean Lakes is nicer and has nicer/better amenities than the others.

When someone says "step out of your camper onto the beach", there's really only one place that comes to mind.

Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina has some FHU and the rest water and electric. It varies how far from the beach depending on your site. The closet site might be a 2 minute walk.They have some good ranger programs. Assateague State and National Park you're just over the dunes.The State Park has one loop with electric. The NP has no hookups. We enjoyed Assategeaue because of the wild horse which come into your site and because of the ranger programs. In the Florida Keys Curry Hammock State park has sites on the water with water and electric. Cape Hatteras National Park has some sites close to the beach but no hookups.Most of these places you need to get your reservations in way ahead of time. But I'll give you a tip. Sometimes you can still get in if you don't want a weekend. Try looking at a Sunday through Thursday. Or splitting your time between 2 sites if you can't find a whole week in one site.

Topsail Island... we used to go their for summer vacations when I first got married. BEAUTIFUL island, we would stay along the top third of the island where it was more remote and it was amazing. Very quiet and very few people on the beach. You could set your chairs and shelter up at the beginning of the week and leave it there until you left.

The campground, if I remember, is across the street from the beach and requires crossing a busier 2 lane 45 mph roadway. Also, that campground used to be PACKED in every summer.

But man, what a wonderful location. It was a 7 hour drive from the DC area but was so amazing. When our kids get older, we are planning to go back to the area again. Good call, I forgot about this area!

No. you are thinking of Rodgers Bay. It is indeed across the road.
Surf City is on the ocean side. It is TINY. Barely a sign. Only has around 25 or 30 sites. no pool, Just a place to setup across the dunes from the water. Ran by a Christian family. Closer to surf City than Rodgers Bay. Google Earth shows it. Last I heard. You had to be a member to stay in Rodgers Bay. Tried to sell me one any way

Topsail also has Black Beard's treasure, and Lainer's CGs. Both on the Intercoastal waterway.

not sure if you have looked at CT, not really known for beaches but there are two state parks that are right on long island sound both are basic campgrounds with some electric and water sites but very close to the beach , hard to get in during the summer but you could try , both have showers and bath houses you can find them on reserve America

There are numerous Florida State Parks on the northern gulf coast, but they are short walks to the beach, like a 100-200 yds to the beach. The problem is they are really hard to get reservations in. You've got to get them 10-11 months in advance, or catch a cancellation.

Hunting Island SP and Edisto Beach SP in South Carolina are wonderful, but they were apparently devastated by the hurricane in the fall and have cancelled all reservations up to Memorial Day. They haven't started with repairs, awaiting funds to be disbursed.

Not sure where you mean by southern coast.
But in Padre Island National Seashore their campground is right on the dunes. You can see the Gulf from your camper window and walk down the path or board walk to the beach. On Mustang Island commercial campgrounds and state park are on the other side of the dunes. Plus about anywhere in Texas you can dry camp right on the beach. Mustang Island, and Padre Island come to mind.
