- livelylittlecamExplorerWe did do Fort Knox and the observation tower. The boys loved both! Our whole crew loved exploring at low tide. It kept us occupied for hours each day.
- quoyfabExplorerGlad you enjoyed it, and put pics on. I see you scouted out Belfast. That has become a very nice community since MBNA (now Bank of America) resurrected it. We were at Moorings a few weeks ago, and had great weather, and a fantastic time as usual. We always go to Young's on the pier. While lobster is easily available for us year round, nothing like feasting on it outside at water's edge.
Nearby, Mt. Battie (18 miles south on Rte 1) offers a spectacular view of Camden Harbor and Vinalhaven. Excellent day or half-day trip in good weather. Roughly 15 miles North on Rte 1 is Fort Knox in Bucksport, another nice side trip in close proximity.
I find hunting for sea glass at low tide to be among the most relaxing activities ever. It's one of very few activities where I find myself ' getting into the moment'. Just love going down those stairs just after dawn walking and searching for the little glass fragments.(tide permitting)which it did. - livelylittlecamExplorerDo your best to get an oceanfront site. The views are stunning along the front row.
- Steve_B_ExplorerThanks for this! I'm planning a stop at the Moorings in early September. Great to get some insight into what to see and do.
