I agree with nbking - that might be what Bell is telling customers but it makes no sense. CRTC cares about what is sold and broadcast in Canada - they couldn't care less what you do with your service elsewhere.

They do prevent US companies from selling services in Canada (e.g. Dish, DirecTV and co aren't allowed) but that's the extent of their power.

Actually, it's more of a hardware manufacturers issue than Shaw itself, since Shaw uses different technology than Bell who piggyback on the US suppliers technology. I use A tripod and get great reception in Canada, the US and Mexico.

I've even had the receiver "zapped" in Mexico when I Emailed Shaw before I learned that you can do it over the net.

My neigbour works for Bell. Apparently it is a CRTC thing which does not apply to Shaw.

I clearly understand the situation. I use one of my home receivers and my spare dish in the MH. My point is the head in the sand attitude of Shaw.

I realize that Shaw Direct does not support on the go (mobile)satellite. Neither does Telus that is for home use only, try to get Telus on the road as a Rver. For me, using SC then Shaw direct all over North America without problems has been great. Left Bell sat in 04 when they left us without sat on a 6 month trip. My Winegard traveller dish sets up when we park for the night in a few minutes every time. We do carry a portable dish for the odd time we are parked behind trees etc.

Shaw works all the way down to Guatemala. I winter in southern Mexico and although I don't care about TV, dozens of people down there (including a lot of Americans) use Shaw.

Although I am a retired Telus employee, their satellite services further south simply do not exist. Better tracking means nothing if there is no signal to start with.

Come about July, we need to see if someone is in the middle to southern states travelling to confirm if in fact the signal is no more.

Well, I am not sure that Shaw is the answer. I have been "chatting" with them over the last couple of days. Have yet to find anyone that knew what they were talking about. Near as I can tell, Shaw supports only three antenna systems, none of which are tracking capable, as follows:

Shaw just doesn't seem to care that they are again being outclassed. Telus introduced a new TV, internet and telephone service about two years ago. There were some initial snags but now all is well and they are kicking Shaw's heinie! I swithed after 12 years with Shaw direct and they called several days after I initiated the service termination. The person couldn't understand why I would change and then came up with a bunch "goodies". I simply very firmly told them that if I was not worth anythin as a customer then I would clearly be worth less as a lost customer. I think that went over the persons head at about 30K.

Great, I dumped Bell for Shaw Direct last month. You are not allowed to use your Bell system in the USA anyways...
