It sounds like you do not have an inverter. Inverters supply 110 VAC power from 12 VDC battery bank.

Size and installation of inverters vary. My coach has a whole house 2000 watt inverter that powers all 110 VAC sockets, microwave, etc (excluding water heater, refrigerator, and air conditioning). Others are setup to only power one or two sockets and so forth.
