Without reading every post the solution for me would be - IMHO - Big Battery bank and Small generator - I have a couple Ryobi 2200's that I got from Craigslist for $250 each - add a set of 6 6v golf cart batteries and the inverter and you will be good to go.

Personal experience - you never have TOO Many Batteries - Solar is way overrated (have it on the house and the RV and the payback will not happen in my lifetime on either - been 12 years on both and am still 30+ from payback)
New Inverter generator technology is unbelievable - mix that in with LED's and smart selection of items and you can really do a lot with a little (I used a 2200 every day for three months 8-12 hours on a gallon a day max to charge small batteries for tools - lights - coffee - started with one-two pulls and was the best) - This was hooked up directly to the Panel of a 3,700 sq ft house and would power most of the lights (no refrig or A/C)
So take a little time - read up on what people suggest - educate your self with the Facts and go for it.
