My only personal experience in Myrtle Beach thus far (2 times) have been in Pirateland. That being said, after touring MBTP last time we were there, we'll be staying in MBTP next time.
I guess it would all depend on your preferences. Personally, I didn't like the constant traffic of the golf carts and the permanent idiots that think blaring their music out of them, annoying everyone as they tour around is a great thing to do. Just isn't my cup of tea. Seeing kiddies who aren't old enough to be driving cars driving the carts around just doesn't give me any sense of security when I hear one rolling up behind me when we walk around.
My drive thru MBTP, I didn't see a single golf cart, and I toured the whole place to have a look. Both the pool and beach are close to the Oceanside sites, whereas in Pirateland, you'll have a hike to one or the other. Camp bathrooms and showers look relatively new in MBTP compared to Pirateland.
