I am not sure where you are going or what route, but if you look on the Roam site they will tell you what cities have been upgrade. I know Orlando and Atlanta have been upgraded as I was getting LTE in both cities this summer on Roam. If you can get 3G or better in one of the upgraded cities, but only get 2G in a city not in the Roam upgrade list than you know your phone does not support the old bands being used by Tmobile/Roam. If you are on Rogers/Fido there is a higher probability that this is your issue.
