Best site or section at Fort Mcallister Savannah?

I realize you cannot reserve a specific site. Looking for ideas on the best one to try for or best section if there is one.

We will be in a 19' TT, 2 adults, meeting my Daughter and family who are renting a cabin. Will be on weekend in June.

Goal is to help my Grandson catch his first fish that weekend. Any ideas on that would be nice too. In this case size does not matter, he is only 2 1/2 :)
  • Only 1 camping area. Tent sites are nearest the river, RV sites are back more in the trees. We stayed in the 43-51 row. With your 18 footer you will have your pick of sites. Bring bug spray!
  • The little one will enjoy the fort. The no-see-ums can be ferocious at times so bug spray is a must
  • Any of the rv sites. Double ditto on bug spray in warm weather. Good luck with the fishing.
  • I stayed in site 46 or 48 so I could pull through.. I have a bit larger TT and wanted the extra space.. liked the privacy, the TT faced away from the road, oh by the way this was over New Years weekend a year ago.
    from back of site

from door looking out across site..
  • Ask at the office about the pull thrus that put the driver's side of the trailer toward the road. There are several with the hookups set up that way. That puts your door and awning facing the woods. Nice place.
  • We stayed there last year in a 40'MH with no problems. every site there will handle your TT from what I remember. Word of warning, secure everything that smells like food and your garbage, the raccoons are numerous and hungry. We woke up both mornings with torn garbage bags even though they hung up and coon prints all over the grill, picnic table and the water hose. Nice quite totally shaded park, be sure and take time to visit the museum at the fort site.
