We're doing a quick scouting trip this March with Nine Mile Canyon, then the Arches, and Bridges National Parks. Finishing with 2 nights in Sedona then on to Spring Training in Scottsdale. We have reservations for all except for The Bridges which has a first come basis. Leaving N. Ca, we're gone for @ 2.5 weeks.
I grew up near Nine Mile Canyon. Despite the name, the canyon is much, much longer. Be prepared to go 50-100 miles. My wife jokes that it should be called 90 mile canyon. Beautiful drive, though, and you have a chance at seeing bighorn sheep. The petroglyphs are really cool. There are more down in the San Rafael Swell including a huge wall filled with them, but if you aren't familiar with the area it's easy to get lost.
There are some out of the way ghost towns up Canyon Road in Helper Utah, which is near where you would be. The area is called Spring Canyon. The mining and railroad museum in downtown Helper is great if you like history. In Price, there is a wonderful dinosaur museum as well, right behind the library.
When down at Arches, take a detour and visit Dead Horse Point State Park. It overlooks Canyonlands. You won't be disappointed.
