Best time for Utah

Retired and plan to go to Utah. No specific reason but just to go out of state with RV for the first time. From Sacramento to Salt Lake then probably head South. No Grand Canyon visit.
what is better time? Late August, early September, October or in Spring around April. Will do some biking, hiking, and just sight see.
Thanks.

  • A couple of thoughts. I like the idea of going south in CA and hitting Zion and Bryce first. Then head over to Capital Reef and then on to Canyonlands and Arches. Spring or fall would be the best weather times. Summer will be hot. If you have a Jeep you will love Utah as there are tons of backcountry roads to travel in and around most of the parks as well as other parts of the state. Canyonlands in particular is an off road haven. We spent three weeks there the last time we were in the area.
  • When my son was stationed at Hill AFB we made several trips to Utah. I always thought anytime was a good time to visit Utah.
  • Thank you so much. Leaning towards March/April 2017 before schools out. We have annual trip to the redwoods with grandkids so will plan to be back in june. This year is out for spring, but fall this year possible or next year spring. That will give time to research. Please keep suggestions coming. I will print them out for reference.

Let's try Spring -April if this is your first trip out of state let's not make it a bad one.

Another suggestion is to head South, in California, your comfort state, and head into Utah from the South. Vegas and Zion would be the way points I would put into the mapping program.

After you pick your locations and dates it's good to check to see if something is going on in that location that might make it undesirable to you.

Do a search - select your locations and get back to us. Weather - HEAT - is always a concern for Utah so check out local weather history for the locations you choose.

IMHO march and April are great time to do the NP's in Utah - less crowded and just beautiful.

After this trip you can come back trough in the Northern route and do Colorado in the Summer.

    BOL,
  • We are planning a trip to Utah also. Hopefully, we will arrive in June or July. How is it then?
  • Parks in Utah can get full fast the first part of Oct. They have a school break at that time.
  • We spend part of October and April in Utah hiking and ATVing. Have been doing that for years.
