- More_To_SeeExplorerThere is BLM camping just south of both Ajo and Why. And also some inexpensive commercial campgrounds in the area to take advantage of for a night if desired.
Right outside Ajo to the south a couple miles take Darby Wells Road to the west into some BLM land.
And then down south of Why a couple miles you will cross a bridge over a somewhat large wash. Just beyond that turn west into the Gunsite Wash area for BLM camping. Go back in maybe a tenth mile.
If you haven't spent much time in that part of the country lately there are quite a few good places to boondock. But the season will be coming to an end soon as the 100+ degree days of summer arrive. - SuperchargedExplorer

The last time I drove by was about the same as you, it was on the left side of the why in the road a little. Haven't heard much about it in years.
16 years ago we boon docked near Why (i think) Just wondered if there still is a place near there and where can I find it. Thanks. - dbblsExplorerThe last I heard there was boondocking sites south of Aho. I've never camped there but I think it is just a mile or two south of town on the west side of the road.

It is like going 100 miles north of the train tracks in Canada.
