In our experience going both ways even stuff that is allowed keep the original package. We had rice in a container and were about to have to dump it but we had the label from the package with cooking instructions and they let it go.
We have had eggs when they were banned so we boiled them. Potatoes and other veggies as well and then froze them rather than throw them.
Meat as long as it was frozen has always been ok for us.
Best to check with them as like said it changes.
