border crossing

could someone please send me the web page that will tell me what is ok in food to take across the border this year. i have lost all my bookmarks and i know it changes every year. any help would be appreciated.
  • As the US border guy admitted while we were getting the "random special check" recently, the rules change all the time, sometimes even faster than the web sites.
My answer was that I would just keep on bringing the food I had, tell them what I have, and let them grab whatever their rules of the day say is verboten.

He agreed that was a valid plan.
  • In our experience going both ways even stuff that is allowed keep the original package. We had rice in a container and were about to have to dump it but we had the label from the package with cooking instructions and they let it go.
We have had eggs when they were banned so we boiled them. Potatoes and other veggies as well and then froze them rather than throw them.
Meat as long as it was frozen has always been ok for us.
Best to check with them as like said it changes.
  • We've been crossing back and forth each winter for 10+ years, we just pack what's in the home fridge and on the return we bring back what's in the RV fridge. Only stuff that we've had taken was dog food, no concerns about human food.

Since it costs us $2 a bag for garbage back home it's actually more cost effective to have the border folks take the stuff off our hands! Don't sweat it, not a big deal.

I think I will not take a chance on any issues and just give it away. it is boneless skinless chichen thighs and do not sell for 99 cents a pound....tehehe.

Why give it away? Put it in the freezer and they'll most likely not even bother about it. If they do, then so be it.
  • Just crossed into BC this morning.
    Not one word about chicken.
When I checked it out two weeks ago they said
    the ban was lifted.

Very fast crossing...through in a couple of minutes.
