They most definitely exchange information. I travel back and forth 5 or 6 times a year and I have had the US border patrol look at there computer screens and say: ( So I see you crossed at the Santa Maria crossing on the 12th where in Mexico have you been for the last 2 weeks?) So they knew the date I crossed and the location I crossed all with information from the mexican border patrol checking my passport.
