I have a question that has been asked me by a couple of american friends. They wonder why I worry about the 182 day limit. I try to explain that their uncle sam would then want to tax me as a resident...

The IRS issue is different. They don’t care how long you are in the country as long as you start paying taxes once you are in the country for more than 120 days (unless you show closer ties to Canada via the 8840 form. Then it’s 183 days).
