We have a two week trip plan for the Cape Cod area in May. We plan to stay at the Boston/Cape Cod KOA for 14 days. Reservations have already been made. We're looking for suggestions for things to do in the area. We usually move every 3 or 4 days when we do our trips. This year we decided to stay in one place and do several day trips. We plan to visit Rhode Island, Connecticut, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Boston. We're looking for suggestions of boat tours, scenic and historic sites within a couple of hours. Any feedback would be appreciated.Thanks.

Cape Cod - Provincetown is "eclectic", but is the quintessential Cape Cod town. There are a number of ocean and bay side beaches to visit. The Marconi radio station in the National Seashore park was the sight where the first trans-Atlantic telegram was sent. You can also take a scenic train ride from Hyannis that goes to the Cape Cod Canal.Plymouth is gearing up for the 400 anniversary of the Rock next year. Marthas Vineyard is a good day trip. I'd take the Island Queen from Falmouth Harbor and spend the day in Oak Bluffs. There's a couple of public beaches and the Flying Horses carousel.Newport Rhode Island and the mansion tours. I think The Breakers is the nicest one.More stuff too do in Boston than I can mention. Top of the Pru or the Hancock Tower if it's a clear day. If you're into history you can follow the stupid red line (what my kids called The Freedom Trail). USS Constitution if it's open or the Constitution Museum if not. Museum or Science for older kids and the Children's museum for the young 'uns. Also the Aquarium.In Connecticut, Mystic Seaport is just 2 hours from the KOA.Lots to do in 2 weeks. You may have to come back :)

Everything everyone else said plus:Concord/ Lexington,where our Revolutionary War began.Worcester Art Museum,probably the finest”small” art museum in the country, also housing a magnificent collection of arms and armor.New Bedford Whaling Museum.Chatham,Ma Coast Guard Station.Cape Cod National Seashore,swim with the Great White sharks (if you’re insane). While in Worcester you can dine in some incredible restaurants that can match any sort of food you favor. Any country you can think of is represented. India, China,Tibet,Africa,Russian,French,Irish,Polish,Italian,etc. Plus we have McDonalds!What more could you want?

During the week apparently it apparently fills up with commuters fairly early; I can't really say from personal experience one way or the other.

Absolutely, often by 7 a.m. They've also had to close parts of the garage to effect repairs because the garage is not in good shape. Weekends are generally not an issue unless a date coincides with a larger-than-normal event in the city.

Getting to Alewife is straightforward: I-95 to MA2 inbound to the exit for Alewife Station. Payment is via kiosks accepting credit/debit cards or cash, no app needed.

I don't want to use a phone app either. Hopefully I can figure out another way of paying.

We stayed in the Middleboro KOA a year ago.
We never took the train in. We couldn't understand the ticketing. The parking charge was either a phone app or a higher charge to your license plate. My wife wouldn't put the app on and we didn't want to charge the rental car.
Driving to the subway (in Quincy) was unpleasant but we managed. One of the parking garages was closed for rebuilding.

There's a very pleasant Starbucks in a mall on the way to Plymouth. There's also Edaville which is a cranberry bog with an amusement park. Plymouth has a rock that people come from miles around to see.
If you like American history, or the kids are taking it in school, there is an awful lot in Boston. Also a couple of universities that can be toured.

If you like streetcars and subways, Boston has more variety than almost any other city.

In Brewster check out the Natural History Museum and the General Store. If you have bikes the Cape Cod Rail Trail is very nice (stop at Arnolds in Eastham.) The Salt Pond Visitor Center is interesting and you can book a guided canoe trip there. If you take a trip to Nantucket I liked the whaling museum there better than the one in New Bedford. And if you have a 4X4 & some extra equipment you can get a beach driving pass - drive out & pull up a section of beach (we did Race Point.)

The KOA you are staying at is 2 miles (as the crow flies) from a commuter rail station in Middleboro. It should be easy for you to get into Boston from there!

Forgot to mention, riverside station is popular for touring Boston, we have used it many times our self's, will get you almost anywhere in the city.
