I agree - more like dead stop as you near Boston, whether on the Pike, or I-95, or much of I-495. Best find alternate transportation, but it's readily available.
In addition to what's above - if you have time (and these are drive-to yourself) Plimoth Plantation and Old Sturbridge Village are incredibly historic ... Plimoth is small and brief, Sturbridge is ALL day. If you choose only one, Sturbridge ...
Also, if you get a chance to visit Cape Cod, Heritage Plantation just across the bridge in Sandwich is worth the trip. Excellent day trip. DO NOT drive to the Cape Friday evening, or leave Saturday or Sunday mid-day ... Otherwise, traffic is very do-able both on and off Cape over the bridges.
